Hannah Berkowitz is a partner in the New York office of Murphy & McGonigle, P.C., a law firm with offices in New York, Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Virginia specializing in representing financial services firms and their employees in litigation and regulatory proceedings, providing regulatory and compliance advice, conducting internal investigations and acting as an independent consultant.

Prior to joining Murphy & McGonigle, Ms. Berkowitz was Group Executive and Senior Associate General Counsel at Mastercard Worldwide, where she had responsibility worldwide for litigation, regulatory, government relations and public policy. Prior to that, Ms. Berkowitz was a Managing Director and General Counsel Litigation at UBS Financial Services Inc. and, before the merger ofUBS and PaineWebber Incorporated, head affirm-wide litigation, including capital markets, retail and asset management, as Deputy General Counsel and Senior Vice President at PaineWebber. Prior to joining PaineWebber, Ms. Berkowitz was a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where she represented domestic and foreign companies, including investment banks and broker dealers, in commercial, securities and antitrust  litigation, and criminal proceedings. Ms. Berkowitz began her career as a law clerk to the late Hon. William C. Conner in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Ms. Berkowitz is an Adjunct Professor at Pace Law School. She was a visiting lecturer at the University of Chicago School of Law, where she developed and taught a seminar on securities proceedings involving global financial institutions.

Ms. Berkowitz served as an officer of the executive committee of the compliance and legal division of the securities industry's trade organization and chairperson of its amicus committee. She was a member of the NASD's National Arbitration & Mediation Committee. She is a FINRA arbitrator. She also is a frequent speaker for bar associations and other organizations on securities and complex proceedings, dispute resolution, managing outside counsel and legal writing. She has contributed to articles on topics relating to the securities industry.

Ms. Berkowitz graduated from Rutgers Law School with High Honors and was an editor of the law review. She graduated summa cum laude from Brooklyn College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 2003, she received the YMCA's Women Achievers Award.
