Oliver Gideon is the current President of the National Lawyers Guild's New York City Chapter has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2004 and served for a year as the Chapter's co-Vice President. His involvement with the NLG-NYC began in late 2004 when he acted as a legal observer for its Mass Defense Committee around the Republican National Convention. He has since represented hundreds of people arrested on so-called "protest charges" in criminal prosecutions and civil rights litigation, including many arrested on the nights of Critical Mass bicycles rides in New York City between 2004 and 2006 and in connection with Occupy Wall Street actions in 2011. In 2006, Gideon was named Attorney of the Year by the FreeWheels Bicycle Defense Fund. Between 2004 and 2008, he practiced law with his father, Lewis B. Oliver, Jr. Between 2008 and 2009, he practiced law with Elizabeth M. Fink and Sarah Kunstler. Gideon has been a solo practitioner since 2009.
