Fred Knecht is a partner at Covington & Burling LLP and a member of its securities and capital markets practice. Fred's practice focuses largely on securities offerings, including IPOs, public debt offerings, follow-on equity capital raises and Rule 144A and other private placements, representing both issuers and underwriters. Fred also frequently represents investment banks, broker-dealers and other entities in regulatory matters arising under federal and state securities laws and the FINRA rules. He also advises investment banks and broker-dealers on a wide range of questions related to corporate governance, business policies and compliance questions. Prior to joining Covington, Fred had nearly 20 years of experience in investment banking and capital markets law at leading investment banks, including Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. At Merrill Lynch, he was General Counsel of the global investment banking, capital markets and private equity businesses from 2006 to 2009. At Goldman Sachs, he headed the investment banking legal group for the Americas.
