Fernando Rivas is a Managing Director and Co-Head of J.P. Morgan's North America Financial Institutions Group (FIG). FIG provides investment banking services to banks, insurance companies, asset managers, specialty finance companies, exchanges and broker-dealers.
Mr. Rivas manages the firm’s investment banking relationships with many of North America’s largest banks. He has spent over 15 years advising financial institutions on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, secured/unsecured financing and risk management.
Mr. Rivas has played a leading role in a large number of mergers (~$300bn of transactions) and capital raises (~$50bn of common equity), including: HSBC’s sale of it’s U.S. credit card business and upstate New York Branches, Wells Fargo’s acquisition of Wachovia, PNC’s acquisition of National City, J.P. Morgan’s acquisition of WaMu, Santander’s acquisition of Sovereign, TD’s acquisition of Commerce, NatWest’s sale to RBS, Capital One’s acquisition of North Fork, Nasdaq’s acquisition of OMX and CoreStates sale to First Union, as well as raising $20bn of equity capital for Wells Fargo, $3bn for PNC, $2.8bn for Capital One and $1.8bn for BB&T.
Mr. Rivas has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and spent three years in J.P. Morgan’s London office advising European financial institutions.
