Elizabeth Bluestein is the General Counsel of Public Counsel, located in Los Angeles, California. Public Counsel is the largest public interest law office in the nation specializing in delivering pro bono legal services to people living at or below the poverty line. Through a pro bono model that leverages the talents and dedication of thousands of attorney and law student volunteers, Public Counsel delivers free legal assistance in the areas of veterans advocacy, appellate law, community development, early care and education, children's rights, consumer law and immigrants' rights, and addresses systemic poverty and civil rights issues through impact litigation and policy advocacy.
Ms. Bluestein is responsible for supervising and coordinating the operational work of Public Counsel's legal programs and overseeing Public Counsel's legal and ethics compliance. Ms. Bluestein is also the Vice Chair of the California State Bar Association's Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services.
Ms. Bluestein graduated from Harvard University with a B.A in Social Studies, and received her J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining Public Counsel, Ms. Bluestein practiced general corporate law at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, and transactional tax law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
