Elisa Hyman
Since 2007, Elisa Hyman and her firm, the Law Office of Elisa Hyman, P.C., has served as Of Counsel to Friedman & Moses L.L.P. (www.friedmanandmoses.com) where she launched and runs a public interest education law and civil rights practice primarily serving parents of children with disabilities and young people. Ms. Hyman represents parents and students on a pro bono and no-cost-up-front basis in impartial hearings, administrative appeals and federal lawsuits. Her consulting firm has also provided education policy consulting services to foundations, universities and nonprofit organizations. Between 1998 and 2007, Ms. Hyman spent eight years at Advocates for Children of New York (AFC), first as the organization's Deputy Director and then as the Executive Director. Before joining AFC, Ms. Hyman was Assistant General Counsel at Safe Horizon, the Queens Child Advocacy Center Planning Director and an associate at the law firm of White & Case. Ms. Hyman earned her J.D. and M.A. in economics at Duke University. Ms. Hyman has served as lead counsel on numerous class action suits brought on behalf of students who were not receiving adequate educational services and she has spearheaded a number of education-related public policy initiatives. She has also authored a number of education-related publications and been regularly quoted in the media with respect to matters of education law and policy in New York City.
