Dean N. Gerber is a shareholder in the Chicago office of Vedder Price P.C. He is the chair of the Equipment Finance Practice Group, which consists of a dedicated team of corporate, tax, securities and bankruptcy attorneys located in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Gerber advises lessees, equity participants, lenders, credit enhancers, governmental agencies and others on various aspects of aviation law and aircraft finance, including leveraged leasing, operating leasing, mortgage and synthetic lease financings, cross-border leasing, securitizations (including EETCs and pass-through certificates), government (export credit agency) supported financings, manufacturer supported financings, and purchase, maintenance and conversion agreements.
Mr. Gerber has specific knowledge of structured tax-motivated financings such as U.S. leveraged leases and has also had significant participation in the structuring and development of cross-border financings involving a number of different jurisdictions. In addition to the negotiation and documentation of aircraft financings, Mr. Gerber has considerable experience in bankruptcy, restructuring and work-out matters involving U.S. airlines, as well as enforcement and seizure actions involving aircraft located both domestically and abroad. He has acted on behalf of financiers and lessors in connection with finance and operating lease transactions involving major and regional U.S. carriers, as well as non-U.S. airlines based in numerous foreign jurisdictions.
Mr. Gerber, also a certified public accountant, is a frequent speaker at air finance conferences and legal forums and has authored numerous articles on aircraft finance-related topics. Mr. Gerber was recently recognized as one of the world’s leading attorneys in the area of aviation law by Legal Media Group’s Expert Guide The Best of the Best 2009, and by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2008. He was also listed in 2008 by The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers as one of the most highly regarded aviation lawyers in the world.
