Bruce E.H. Johnson is a partner in the Seattle office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP and a member of the Washington State and California bars. He has represented publishers, broadcasters, and others in defense of defamation and invasion of privacy lawsuits in Washington State and elsewhere. He has filed and participated in amicus briefs to the United States Supreme Court and other appellate courts in major First Amendment and commercial speech cases. His practice also includes advising and representing attorneys and law firms on issues of ethics and professionalism. In recent years, Mr. Johnson has served as chair of the Media Law and Defamation Torts Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), a member of the TIPS Professionalism Committee, and an officer of the Libel Defense Resource Center’s Defense Counsel Section. He has lectured and written extensively on First Amendment and related topics. A 1972 graduate of Harvard College, he received an M.A. degree from Cambridge University and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
