Alison Burns is the Deputy Associate Chief Counsel of the Corporate Division in the IRS Office of the Chief Counsel. In that position, she assists Corporate's Associate Chief Counsel, William Alexander, supervise the work of approximately 60 attorneys and support staff in the IRS's national office. Ms. Burns works closely with Mr. Alexander in developing published guidance with Treasury's Office of Tax Policy, formulating case specific advice for the Internal Revenue Service, and providing litigation support to Division Counsel and the Department of Justice on a variety of tax questions involving Subchapter C and the consolidated return provisions. Alison spent the first three years of her career as a docket attorney in the Office's Tax Litigation Division, prior to moving overseas with her husband, a former Foreign Service Officer with USAID. After nearly ten years aboard, she returned to the Office's Field Service Division, where she developed significant experience combating abusive tax shelters transactions. She joined the Corporate Division in the 2000 restructuring of the Chief Counsel's Office. Since 2001, Alison has worked in a series of management positions, including serving as the Division's Acting Deputy, a Branch Chief, and an Acting Special Counsel to the Associate Chief Counsel.
