Alexander Trimble, Ph.D., is a registered patent attorney who counsels clients in patent prosecution and portfolio management.
He regularly evaluates issues related to patentability and freedom-to-operate, including performing prior art, landscape and
freedom-to-operate searches, and the preparation of patentability, validity and freedom-to-operate opinions for portfolio analyses
and investment due diligence.
Some representative projects include preparation and prosecution of patent applications for both public institutions and private
pharmaceutical companies and management of the patent portfolios, preparation of patentability and freedom-to-operate
opinions for venture capital groups, and assisting a large public company with development of a new product in the personalized
medicine space.
The core technology of Dr. Trimble's practice is chemistry, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals (organic, inorganic and
organometallic), materials and polymers. He also has experience with biotechnology (assays, PCR), polymeric drug delivery
methods, fuel cell materials and nanotechnology.
Dr. Trimble's graduate work emphasized the rational design of new materials for nanometer scale imaging. His work included
the design and synthesis of small molecules, as well as functional macromolecules including amphiphilic dendrimers, star and
hyperbranched polymers using, for example, nitroxide mediated free radical polymerization methods. These materials were
utilized in studies for nanoscale patterning using Self-Assembled Monolayers and thin layers that were patterned using Atomic
Force Microscopy and electron-beam devices.
