Your privacy is important to Practising Law Institute (PLI). This Privacy Policy describes what personal information we collect from customers, how we collect it, and how we use it. Personal information we collect includes your name, address, telephone number, fax number, credit card information and email address.
 
Practising Law Institute has been awarded TRUSTe's Privacy Seal signifying that this privacy policy and practices have been reviewed by TRUSTe for compliance with TRUSTe's program requirements  including transparency, accountability and choice regarding the collection and use of your personal information.  The TRUSTe program covers the site www.pli.edu.   TRUSTe's mission, as an independent third party, is to accelerate online trust among consumers and organizations globally through its leading privacy trustmark and innovative trust solutions.

Types of Information PLI Collects and How It Is Used

Email Addresses
PLI collects email address information from you when you order a PLI product or service, register for a course, enter your email address on our Web site, publish your name and email address on a public Web site, subscribe to one of our free online newsletters, or provide your email address on one of our surveys or forms, when speaking to one of our customer service representatives, or when your firm/employer provides it to us pursuant to a contractual relationship between PLI and your firm. PLI collects email address information from you so that we may confirm and/or deliver your purchase; communicate with you regarding your order or registration; and alert you of other PLI programs, products, and services that may be of interest to you. Often times, many of our "topical" programs are only advertised through email. Any recipient of such email notices may opt out of receiving them at any time. To opt out of receiving emails, please email your request to privacy@pli.edu or follow the unsubscribe instructions included in each promotional email.
 
We may need to send strictly service related emails from time to time and generally, you may not opt out of receiving these service related communications. PLI does not sell, rent, or otherwise release your email address to any third party, nor do we use it for any purpose other than what is stated in this privacy policy.
 
Telephone Numbers
If you supply your telephone number to PLI, you may receive telephone contact from us with information regarding orders you have placed, new products and services, or information on upcoming events. You have the right to opt-out of receiving telephone contact from PLI. To be placed on PLI's Do Not Call List, please send an email to privacy@pli.edu or notify PLI when contacted that you prefer to be placed on the Do Not Call List. PLI does not sell, rent, or otherwise release your telephone number to any third party, nor do we use it for any purpose other than what is stated in this privacy policy.

Postal Addresses
PLI collects postal mailing address information from you so that we may fulfill the orders you submit to us and inform you of PLI programs, products, and services in which you may be interested. You have the right to opt-out of receiving postal mailings from PLI. If you do not wish to receive postal mailings from PLI in the future, please send an email to privacy@pli.edu.
 
We selectively make our postal mailing address list available to other carefully screened organizations whose products or service offerings may be of interest to you. If you do not wish for us to provide your mailing information to other mailers, please specify this in an email to no3mail@pli.edu.

Faxes
If you supply us your fax number or publish it on your company/firm website, you may receive contact from us with information regarding orders you have placed, new products and services, or information on upcoming events via fax. You have the right to opt-out of receiving contact from PLI via fax. To be placed on PLI's Do Not Fax List, please send an email to privacy@pli.edu. PLI does not sell, rent, or otherwise release your fax number to any third party, nor do we use it for any purpose other than what is stated in this privacy policy.

Credit Card Information
PLI collects your credit card information when you pay by that method. We use the information only to obtain payment for the PLI programs, products, and services you purchase. We use other third parties to provide credit card processing on our site. When you sign up for a service or order a product, we will share your contact information and credit card details as necessary for the third party to provide this service. These third parties are prohibited from using your personal information for any other purpose including their own marketing purposes.
 
PLI does not share your credit card information with any third parties except as described in this privacy policy.

Surveys or Contests
From time-to-time, we may provide you the opportunity to participate in a survey on our site. If you participate, we will request certain personal information from you. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code).
 
We use this information to monitor site traffic or personalize the site (in the case of anonymous information collected), to help improve the site or the curriculum.

Private Label Solutions/Custom Content
Under special contract, PLI provides custom content pages for our clients. These pages are branded with our clients’ logos, but actually still reside on the PLI website: www.pli.edu and our privacy policy governs these pages. We ask for your email address in order to launch the program designed for a particular client. In addition, we use your email address in order to allow you to participate in the program and ask a question of the moderator.  Your email address will be used to identify you to the moderator and to respond to your question.  Your email will not be used in this forum for any other purpose.

Use of Website Cookies
"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. Our site uses cookies to assist in the processing of online orders and marketing analysis. The site will also recognize the cookie upon subsequent visits to automatically log you into the site. Therefore, these cookies are tied to your personal information for this purpose. If you do not wish to be automatically logged in, please use the "log out" feature in the upper right hand corner of the PLI website, when exiting the site. The cookies set by the PLI website are never used for any purposes other than those stated above.

Log Files
As is true of most Web sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data.
 
We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
 
We do not link this automatically-collected data to personal information.
 
We use a third-party tracking service that uses cookies to track non-personal information about visitors to our site in the aggregate to capture usage and volume statistics to enhance the performance of our site.

Data Integrity
PLI will use personal information only in ways that are compatible with the purposes for which it was collected or subsequently authorized by the individual. PLI will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is relevant to its intended use, accurate, complete, and current.

Data Security
PLI will take reasonable precautions to protect personal information in its possession from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. The security of your personal information is important to us. When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number) on our registration or order forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).
 
We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If you use a blog on this site, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for the personal information you choose to submit in our blogs. To request removal of your personal information from our blog or community forum, contact us at privacy@pli.edu.  In some cases, we may not be able to remove your personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why.

Testimonials
We display personal testimonials of satisfied customers on our site in addition to other endorsements.  With your consent we may post your testimonial along with your name.  If you wish to update or delete your testimonial, you can contact us at privacy@pli.edu

Social Media Widgets
Our Web site includes Social Media Features, such as the Facebook Like button [and Widgets, such as the Share this button or interactive mini-programs that run on our site]. These Features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our site, and may set a cookie to enable the Feature to function properly. Social Media Features and Widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site. Your interactions with these Features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.
 
Access and Contact Information
Upon request, PLI will grant individuals reasonable access to the personal information it holds about them. In addition, PLI will take reasonable steps to permit individuals to correct, amend, or delete information that is demonstrated to be inaccurate or incomplete. Data Retention 
We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you services contact us at privacy@pli.edu.  We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
