Miriam Wugmeister is chair of the firm's Global Privacy and Data Security Group. She counsels clients regarding the collection, use, disclosure, and transfer of personal information as organizations seek to comply with U.S. and international data protection laws. Ms. Wugmeister has advised dozens of global companies on multinational compliance efforts, including the consolidation of human resources and customer data into a single database; global technology use and monitoring policies and procedures; handling of personal information in the context of sourcing transactions; global data security standards; e-discovery and international privacy issues; the implications of various local and national laws on direct marketing initiatives; and security breach notification policies and responses.
As an experienced employment litigator, Ms. Wugmeister regularly advises clients about matters involving personnel policies, employee discipline issues, employment discrimination, reductions in force, wage and hour laws, and employee privacy issues.
Ms. Wugmeister worked to develop the firm's Privacy Library and the MoFoNotes subscription database so that organizations can keep apprised of privacy and data security compliance requirements in jurisdictions around the world. She is also co-editor of Global Employee Privacy and Data Security Law, Second Edition (BNA Books, 2011).
Ms. Wugmeister leads the Global Privacy Alliance (GPA), which encourages the rational development of privacy laws around the world and monitors privacy practices, laws and regulations globally. The GPA is a coalition comprised of a cross-section of global businesses from the financial services, automobile, aerospace, consumer products, computer and computer software, communications, and electronic commerce sectors.
